Bosnia and Herzegovina adopts IQ FireWatch for modern wildfire detection

The city of Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina has introduced the modern IQ FireWatch system for the early detection of wildfires. Cameras installed on Leotar Mountain and Humac Hill now cover large areas and can detect smoke in real time.

The live data enables significantly faster alarm assessment and more efficient coordination of response teams.

In upcoming project phases, the monitoring network will be further expanded: the same technology will be installed on additional peaks around the city, near Bilećko Jezero, and in Ljubinje, in order to achieve full area coverage. A new operations centre is also being set up at the local fire station to improve decision-making and on-site response.

Mayor Mirko Ćurić emphasizes the importance of the new system and highlights how crucial rapid reaction is for protecting the population. He states: “We must all be maximally involved from the very beginning – from the first detection to the assessment of whether a unit should be dispatched. The cameras allow us to detect the fire in time, raise attention and react as quickly as possible to protect lives and minimize property damage.”
