Limburg and North Rhine-Westphalia Strengthen Cross-Border Wildfire Detection
Strong forest protection knows no borders. This is why the Dutch province of Limburg and the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia are linking their wildfire detection systems to improve safety in the border region.
A new agreement will connect the wildfire detection systems of both regions into one joint network, as reported by the renowned Dutch newspaper AD.nl. Read the full article here.
Just a few days ago, severe wildfires devastated vulnerable forest areas along the border region. Now, three new sensor sites are being installed in Limburg, with their alerts monitored by the wildfire control center in Wesel on the German side. This cross-border approach will offer the region a much stronger shield against future wildfires.
As Limburg’s Governor Emile Roemer puts it: “The Recent heat waves and the wild and vegetation fires we have experienced in Limburg show how vital rapid detection and close cooperation are.”
